The Oneonta Outlaws dropped their second consecutive home game with a 9-5 loss to visiting Watertown Wizards Thursday evening at Damaschke Field.

 Oneonta starting pitcher Nathaniel Abel (Virginia) held Watertown scoreless for five innings before the Wizards broke through with four runs, off four hits and were helped by two errors on the Outlaw defense. Abel finished up with six innings pitched, allowing four runs off six total hits. Ben Mordini (Utah) came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning but proved ineffective allowing four batters to reach base on walks and allowing one run off a wild pitch. Clay Bates (Clemson) showed good form in the eight with three consecutive strikeouts, but Watertown came back in the ninth scoring four runs off two hits and two walks. Spencer Thomas (South Georgia) served up a bases clearing three run double to Jordan Enos (Holy Cross) as Watertown sealed the victory. Abel picked up his second loss against no wins on the 2012 PGCBL summer circuit.

Watertown starter Bryan Chudy (Clarkson) pitched seven solid innings and picking up the win, holding the Outlaws to three runs off five hits. Oneonta was unable to get an outfield hit until Clay Holcomb (Troy), Heath Holder (Georgia) and Zander Wheel (Vanderbilt) consecutive outfield singles in the seventh inning. The Outlaws were only able to partially capitalize on this production with one run before Chudy closed them down. Despite a ninth inning rally in which the Outlaws scored two runs off three hits Oneonta’s offense remained anemic. Holcomb provided the best evening with one run, one hit and one RBI. Holder and Orlando Rivera (State College of Florida) each chipped in with two hits and a run.

Tonight’s line score was Watertown 9 runs, 11 hits and 2 errors and Oneonta 5 runs, 9 hits and 2 errors in 2:45.

The Outlaws return to Damaschke Field on Friday for a non league contest against the Albany Athletics. Game time is 7:00pm.
