Recap - Golden Eagles can't finish comeback against DawgsGlens Falls, NY – The Golden Eagles were down early in Monday’s game versus Mohawk Valley but managed to put together a late rally to pull within one in the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately they were never able to take the lead in the ball game and were handed their eighth loss of the season, 6-5. Early in the game both Tony Urban (Louisburg) and Evan Wolf (UC Davis) pitched into the sixth inning and worked quickly throughout the night. Urban gave up three earned runs while Wolf gave up two earned. It was a pitchers duel through the fifth but Mohawk Valley began to hit their stride in the sixth. The score was 5-2 when Cory Folk (Buffalo), Jake Doller (Kansas State), and Jared Cheek (Ga. Southern) took the mound for Glens Falls and they only allowed one run in the last three innings. This was just enough time for the Golden Eagles to finally break back. In the seventh Ross Kivett (Kansas State) singled to score Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice), who was on third, and one pitch later Kivett took off for second. Luke Nethaway (Herkimer County C.C.) threw down to second but was not in time. Emmanuel Forcier (New Mexico J.C.) then took off from third on the delayed steal home and put the team within one run of the DiamondDawgs. In the ninth inning, Mohawk Valley was able to push across one run after a couple doubles and extend their lead back to two. In the bottom of the inning, Kivett was able to get a bloop single and extended it to a double after sloppy fielding by Chris Cruz (Cornell). He then moved to third on a past ball. Chase Griffin (Ga. Southern) then grounded one to Jack Morrow (Young Harris) at first and it took a crazy hop, which helped Griffin to get aboard at first and bring Kivett home. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, that was as close as they would get. They move to .500 on the season with an 8 and 8 record. The team travel to Cooperstown tomorrow night and then return home for a doubleheader with the Hawkeyes. Colortyme, who will be giving away some DVD players at the game, will be sponsoring that game. Tickets are $5 and if you have any questions feel free to call the office at 518-223-0820.
