Will Remillard (Coastal Carolina) blasted a three-run home run over the left field wall in the first inning and the Dutchmen never squandered the lead as they beat the visiting Elmira Pioneers 6-5. The win improved Albany’s record to 5-3 and the Elmira Pioneers fell to 0-8.

David Stagg (Heartland C.C.) picked up the win for the Dutchmen as he pitched brilliantly over 5 1/3 innings while striking out nine and walking four. The left-hander only allowed two runs while scattering five hits.

Ricky Schafer (Cypress) came on out of relief for Albany and earned the save. He pitched two innings, giving up two hits, one run, and struck out two. Schafer has been having a lot of early success for the Dutchmen out of the bullpen.

The visiting Pioneers were led by Kendall Konopka (Arizona Christian) as he had a single and a double, and robbed Remillard of a double 400 feet away from home plate in dead center field.

The Dutchmen could not have captured the win without Cody White’s (Southern Idaho) work out of relief. He escaped a bases loaded jam with two strikeouts despite a defensive mental lapse by the Dutchmen to allow one unearned run to score.

The Dutchmen get right back at it tomorrow at 5pm, as they take on the Oneonta Outlaws on Father’s Day.
