There’s no place like home.
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawg Evan Davis made his longest start in more than a year Thursday and he did it on familiar soil — the mound at Veterans Memorial Park. He threw eight innings in an exhibition game against the New Rochelle Athletics and led his squad to a 7-1 victory on the mound he called home through four varsity seasons at Little Falls High School.
“After the first couple innings I really got into it,” said Davis who allowed one run on two hits, all in the second inning. “I’m not disappointed at all. It was a good start.”
Davis started one game this spring as a Marist College freshman. He had not pitched more than five innings in any game since the end of his final high school season in 2011. He struck out eight batters Thursday and walked three. The DiamondDawgs turned two double plays behind him and did not commit an error.
