Cooperstown scored five unearned runs on four errors and beat Watertown 9-3. The trouble started right away with the Hawkeyes stealing four bases in the first two innings to score three runs. The big bat came from a new face, Jacob Hubert (Laredo CC) went 2-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Bryan Chudy (Clarkson) started for the Wizards and took the loss. He gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings. James Norwood (Saint Louis) started and got the win for the Hawkeyes. He gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings. Watertown left 10 runners on base.
The Wiz Kids were threatening though in the bottom of the seventh. A run was already in off the bat of Brandon Cipolla (Holy Cross) and the bases were loaded with one out. Andrew Grann (New Paltz) came in relief of Josh Anderson (Cypress) and got Christian Hickman (Alcorn State) to ground into an inning ending double play.
Cipolla went 3-4 with an RBI and Grann got the rare 2.1 inning save. Watertown heads to Glens Falls to take on the Golden Eagles Saturday at 7:00 PM.
