Elmira, NY- The Elmira Pioneers finished off their opening weekend on Sunday as they welcomed the Oneonta Outlaws to town for the first time. Elmira looking for their first win of the season sent John Melville (New Haven) to hill for his first start of the season. The Outlaws would use a huge fourth inning to secure their third victory of the season by a final of 5-3.

Elmira would crack the scoreboard first in the second inning after drawing two walks. Graeme Zaparzynski (Slippery Rock) in his Pioneers debut laced a ball to right field scoring Landon Prentiss (VCU) and Aaron Nardone (Delaware St.) after an error by the Outlaws right fielder.

With Elmira poised for their first victory of 2012, Zander Wiel (Vanderbilt) cut the Pioneers lead in half with a solo homerun to start off the fourth inning. The Outlaws would bat around en route to a four run inning and thus giving them a 4-2 lead. Elmira would try to get back into the contest as Nardone would drive in Zac Bellinger (VCU) making it a one run ballgame.

Oneonta would cap off the scoring adding a run in the ninth and securing their third win of 2012. Melville falls to 0-1 on the season after going four innings and allowing four runs on four hits. Bellinger finished the night 3-5 with two doubles and Zaparzynski would finish 2-4 with one RBI.

Elmira will hit the road on Monday as they head to Newark to square off against the Pilots with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.
