Two of the three award winners are pitchers. Sun Belt Conference – Player of the Week Corey Keller (Elmira 2010-2011), Florida Atlantic New England Small College Athletic Conference – Pitcher of the Week Mike Barsotti (Cooperstown 2010), Wesleyan State University of New York Athletic Conference – Pitcher of the Week Aaron Schuldt (Watertown 2009), Cortland State Florida Atlantic University junior Corey Keller (Elmira 2010-2011) has been selected as the Player of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference. Keller had a monster week at the plate and led the Owls to a three-game conference sweep of Louisiana-Lafayette. In four games last week, the junior batted .733 (11-for-15) with three home runs, six RBI, five runs scored and two doubles. Keller reeled off four multi-hit games in a row and had at least one RBI and one run scored in each contest. He slammed a solo home run, drove in two and had three of FAU’s seven hits against Central Florida on Mar. 27. Against ULL, Keller went 8-for-11 and slammed two home runs. He had four hits in four at-bats in the middle game of the series and he book-ended the three-game set with solo belts. The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tabbed Wesleyan College senior Mike Barsotti (Cooperstown 2010) as its Pitcher of the Week. Barsotti hurled a three-hitter over eight innings and struck out a career-high 13 in a NESCAC game at Bowdoin College on Mar. 31. The senior yielded one unearned run on three hits, walked one and hit one in a complete game effort. He struck out the first four Bowdoin batters he faced and twice retired the side via three strikeouts. Barsotti tossed seven shutout frames and allowed just two runners to safely advance past second base in his eight frames. In his last start, Barsotti broke the school’s all-time strikeout record. Cortland State senior Aaron Schuldt (Watertown 2009) was named Pitcher of the Week by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Schuldt fired a three-hit shutout and struck out a career-high 14 in a SUNYAC victory over Plattsburgh on Mar. 30. The Red Dragon starter scattered three singles and walked two over seven innings. He struck out at least two batters in five of his seven stanzas and struck out the side twice. The Cortland State senior also earned the ECAC Upstate New York Division III Pitcher of the Week award. From last week… (Mar. 26, games Mar. 18 – Mar. 25) New Paltz redshirt sophomore Andrew Grann (Cooperstown 2012) was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week by the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Grann pitched a complete game two-hit shutout to lead New Paltz past Plattsburgh in a SUNYAC game on Mar. 24. The Oceanside, N.Y., native carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and had it broken up on a two-out single. He allowed two base hits, walked none and struck out eight in the seven-inning contest that was played at Plattsburgh’s spacious Chip Cummings Field. Grann was also named ECAC Upstate New York Division III Pitcher of the Week. |
