Six on Tino Martinez Award Preseason Watch List![]() Photo courtesy Steve Plopper/Newark Pilots Michael Bolling (Newark 2011), Lewis Ben Manlove (Cooperstown 2011), Chico State Cody Repenning (Oneonta 2011), Grand Canyon Carlos Asuaje (Oneonta 2011), Nova Southeastern Brett Botsford (Watertown 2009), LeMoyne Ben Kincaid (Watertown 2010), Minnesota State Lewis University senior outfielder Michael Bolling (Newark 2011) was a key component for the 2011 PGCBL champion Newark Pilots. Bolling, an all-league selection, led the PGCBL with 22 stolen bases and he topped the Pilots in batting average (.353), runs scored (35) and stolen bases. Last spring in his first season with the Lewis Flyers, Bolling topped the Great Lakes Valley Conference with 31 stolen bases and he was first on the team in runs scored (37) and on-base percentage (.427). The Triton College transfer was named All-GLVC second team and NCBWA All-Midwest Region second team. Chico State University redshirt junior Ben Manlove (Cooperstown 2011) spent most of the 2011 PGCBL season behind the plate for the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. He appeared in 41 regular season games, finished second on the team with 22 runs batted in and threw out 13 runners attempting to steal. Last spring, Manlove cracked a career high six home runs and drove in 26 runs for the Chico State Wildcats. He batted .301 and was second on the team in total extra-base hits. The Berkley, Calif., native earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention and he was tabbed NCBWA All-West Region second team. Grand Canyon University junior pitcher Cody Repenning (Oneonta 2011) was part of a strong pitching staff on an Oneonta Outlaws team that won a summer baseball championship last summer. Repenning, considered one of the top prospects in Division II by Baseball America, went 5-0 with a 1.82 earned run average in eight appearances for the Outlaws. He fired a five-hit complete game and struck out 11 in his final start of the summer. Last spring, the 6-foot-6 Repenning led the Grand Canyon Antelopes in ERA (2.80), appearances (19) and complete games (four). Through his first two seasons with the ‘Lopes, Repenning won seven games. Nova Southeastern University sophomore Carlos Asuaje (Oneonta 2011) was one of the top offensive performers for the Oneonta Outlaws last summer. Asuaje, an all-league infielder, led the Outlaws in batting average (.369), hits (55), runs scored (35), home runs (three), walks (25) and stolen bases (19). His .369 batting average was the third-highest in the league. Last spring, the Weston, Fla., native was the Freshman of the Year in the Sunshine State Conference. He was an all-conference and all-region standout with the Sharks and he topped the team with 20 stolen bases. Asuaje, as a freshman, was second at NSU in batting average (.355). LeMoyne College senior outfielder Brett Botsford (Watertown 2009) was a starting outfielder and line-up regular for the 2009 Watertown Wizards. Botsford missed just four regular season games and he was fourth on the team in runs batted in (17). Last spring as a junior at LeMoyne, then a Division-I independent, he led the Dolphins in batting average (.311), hits (61), runs scored (41), doubles (13), walks (32), on-base percentage (.423) and stolen bases (20). The Syracuse, N.Y., native was an all-star in the New England Collegiate Baseball League last summer with the New Bedford Bay Sox. Minnesota State University senior Ben Kincaid (Watertown 2010) was the Most Valuable Player for the Watertown Wizards in 2010. Kincaid, a two-way threat, was first on the Wizards in runs batted in (15) and he set a franchise record with five triples. On the mound, he struck out 25 batters in 23.2 innings. Last spring, the Eau Claire, Wisc., native helped the Minnesota State Mavericks to their 30th NCAA regional appearance. Kincaid batted .295, drove in 20 runs and scored 26 times for MSU. The selected finalists will be announced on May 21 and the award will be handed out at the conclusion of the NCAA Division II World Series which will be held in Cary, N.C., from May 26 through June 2. |
