PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 30, 2018With two days to play in the regular season, two spots in the PGCBL Playoffs are up for grabs, and both could be decided on Monday night. Sunday's Results Monday's Scheduled Games Albany Dutchmen at Glens Falls Dragons After clinching a spot in the PGCBL Playoffs on Sunday, the Albany Dutchmen will conclude their season series with the Glens Falls Dragons at East Field. There is still some significance in the final three games for Albany, who hold a percentage point lead over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs for the third best record in the PGCBL. With two wins in their final three games, the Dutchmen would clinch home field advantage should they play Mohawk Valley in the PGCBL Semifinals. Utica Blue Sox at Oneonta Outlaws Although the Blue Sox trail the Watertown Rapids by a half game in the PGCBL Central, the Blue Sox still could clinch a playoff spot on Monday night. If the Blue Sox sweep the Outlaws in their doubleheader at Damaschke Field, and the Rapids lose at home to Adirondack, the Blue Sox would lock up a trip to Little Falls for a meeting with the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs in the first round of the PGCBL Playoffs. Elmira Pioneers at Newark Pilots Despite heading to Newark for the first game of a home and home series, the Elmira Pioneers will likely be glancing at the out-of-town scoreboard throughout the night. If Jamestown defeats Geneva or Amsterdam loses to Saugerties, the Pioneers will clinch a spot in the PGCBL Playoffs as the West's number three seed. If Elmira makes the playoffs, the Pioneers will travel to McDonough Park, and will play a one game series against the Geneva Red Wings. Amsterdam Mohawks at Saugerties Stallions Amsterdam enters Monday with a glimmer of hope at claiming the top seed in the PGCBL Playoffs. To run down the Jamestown Jammers, the Mohawks will need to beat both Saugerties and Albany in the final two days of the season, and will need the Jammers to lose both ends of a home-and-home to the Newark Pilots. Should the Mohawks fall short of the top seed, Amsterdam will host the Albany Dutchmen at Shuttleworth Park in the first round of the 2018 PGCBL Playoffs. Adirondack Trail Blazers at Watertown Rapids A 14-inning marathon victory moved the Watertown Rapids into second place in the PGCBL Central, and kept the Rapids in control of their own destiny. With a win over the Trail Blazers and one Utica loss to Oneonta, Watertown would qualify for the PGCBL Playoffs in their first year of play. The Rapids will also clinch a postseason berth if the Blue Sox are swept in their doubleheader against the Oneonta Outlaws. Geneva Red Wings at Jamestown Jammers The top two teams in the PGCBL West meet at Diethrick Park for Jamestown's regular season home finale. The Jammers lead the Amsterdam Mohawks by a game and a half, and can clinch the top overall seed with a victory or a loss by the Mohawks. Geneva is locked into the number two seed in the West. The Red Wings will either host the Elmira Pioneers if Jamestown is the number one seed, or will travel back to Diethrick Park to play the Jammers if Amsterdam is the top seed. |
