PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 19, 2018After last night's outstanding PGCBL All-Star Game, 12 of the league's 13 teams are back in league action tonight, with only the Oneonta Outlaws idle. 2018 PGCBL All-Star Game Thursday's Scheduled Games Saugerties Stallions at Albany Dutchmen Thursday's PGCBL slate begins with one of its most critical games, as Albany and Saugerties will battle for second place in the PGCBL East in the Capital Region. The Dutchmen hold a percentage point lead over the Stallions for second place as each team enters the home stretch of the regular season. The two teams have not met for nearly a month, but will play five times in the final two weeks of the season. The visiting team has won all four games in the series this season, with the series even at two games apiece. Glens Falls Dragons at Amsterdam Mohawks With Albany and Saugerties facing off, the Amsterdam Mohawks will need a victory to maintain their 1.5 game lead in the PGCBL East. Glens Falls sits 5.5 games behind second place, and similarly need a win to keep pace as they try to rally in the divisional race. In the first eight games of the season between the teams, the Dragons and Mohawks have each won four games. Amsterdam has won back-to-back series in the divisional rivalry, winning on July 6 and July 7 in a home-and-home series. Watertown Rapids at Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs The PGCBL Central Division features three teams seperated by 2.5 games, with the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs leading the way. The host Dawgs will attempt to keep their lead intact, or even extended, at Veterans Memorial Park. The Blue Sox have a 5-4 lead in the season series against the DiamondDawgs, including back-to-back victories on July 11 and July 14. Each of the last four games between the teams has been in Utica, as the last game in Little Falls was played in June 29. Geneva Red Wings at Jamestown Jammers Coming out of the All-Star Game, the Jamestown Jammers hold a magic number of three to clinch the PGCBL West Division title. Meanwhile, the Geneva Red Wings are locked in a battle for the second and third spots in the division, holding a one game lead over the Elmira Pioneers and a 1.5 game lead over the Newark Pilots. The Jammers hold a 5-2 series lead during the 2018 season, but the Red Wings have won two of three thanks to a doubleheader sweep on July 9. Elmira Pioneers at Newark Pilots After hosting the All-Star Game on Wednesday night, the Elmira Pioneers will take to the road for a crucial divisional contest with the Newark Pilots at Colburn Park. The Pioneers and Pilots currently occupy third and fourth place in the PGCBL West, and are very much in the playoff hunt entering the home stretch. The Pioneers have won five of eight games in the season series, and the visiting team has claimed victory in five of the last six contests between Dunn Field and Colburn Park. Utica Blue Sox at Adirondack Trail Blazers Both teams in Thursday's game at the Robert Smith Sports Complex are alive in the playoff hunt, with Utica tied for second place and Adirondack lurking four games behind the guaranteed playoff spot in the PGCBL Central Division. The final two games of the season between the Blue Sox and the Trail Blazers will be played in Boonville, as the Blazers will need two wins to steal the season series from Utica, who holds a 5-4 advantage through the first nine games. |
