Mohawks Outlast Glens FallsThe Amsterdam Mohawks spread the hitting around in a tightly contested game at Shuttleworth Park. The Mohawks ended up with the win over the Glens Falls Dragons with a final score of 6-5. The Mohawks took the lead in the 3rd inning and were able to keep it thanks to a great start by Shane Muntz (Wake Forest). After the first, Muntz would settle down after a rocky first inning, only allowing 5 Dragons to reach base in his next 5 innings pitched. He would finish the night with 6 innings pitched, allowing 3 runs, 1 of them earned on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 2 hit batsmen. Muntz also was able to get 7 strikeouts. Mike Antico (St John’s) went 2 for 4 with a walk, 2 stolen bases and a run scored on the night. Jake Hammon (Morehead St.) got his first home run in a 2-4 night. The shortstop Elvis Peralta Jr. (Marshall) had a fantastic night at the plate, 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI including the home run. Glens Falls’ starter, Shane Barringer (Siena) went 5 innings, letting up 5 runs, 4 of which were earned. He let up 9 hits and 2 walks, while only striking out 1. Brian Hart (Marist) was the hitter of the night for the Dragons, batting 2 for 4 with a home run and a single, recording 4 RBI. In the first inning, the Glens Falls Dragons took an early 3-0 lead after the first the first two men to come up against Mohawks’ starter Muntz, the next 4 would all get on. Only one of the 3 runs was earned, Brian Hart would get 2 RBI on a single and an error. The Mohawks would respond right away in the bottom of the inning. They also put on 4 men in a row, Richie Barrella (Manhattan) would get the first RBI from a single. Joe Genord (USF) used a sacrifice fly to tie the Mohawks all-time RBI record with 63 to bring the score to 3-2 Glens Falls. The Mohawks would get 2 more in the 3rd inning and take the lead off an Elvis Peralta Jr. double, and an error on a softly hit Richie Nizza (FAU) would end up plating 2. Amsterdam would get a run in the 5th from Jake Hammon, his first as a Mohawk. Elvis Peralta Jr. would then extend the team home run lead, on a solo home run, bringing his total to 4 on the season. In the top of the 8th, the Glens Falls Dragons would pull within one off the bat of the left fielder, Brian Hart who would hit a 2 run home run. Shane Muntz gets the win, while Shane Barringer takes the loss. Ryan McLinskey (Seton Hall) would pitch a scoreless 9th to get the save. The Mohawks travel to Siena College tomorrow for a double header against the Albany Dutchmen. The first game starts at 3PM and the second game starts right after. Amsterdam returns home to face the Saugerties Stallions, where the Mohawks will continue a game started on June 24th at 5PM. The teams will then continue and play a full game after the conclusion of the first. The Glens Falls Dragons will play Oneonta at home, with a 7PM start. The Mohawks take this one 6-5, improving to 16-10 as they hold on to their first place position in the Eastern Division of the PGCBL. |
