The entire PGCBL slate was rained out on Wednesday night. Ten of the league's 13 teams will look to get back in action on Thursday in five quality matchups.
Thursday's Scheduled Games
Elmira Pioneers at Albany Dutchmen
The Elmira Pioneers look for a season sweep of the Albany Dutchmen at Siena College on Thursday night. The Pionners topped the Dutchmen 3-1 at Dunn Field on Tuesday night. The Dutchmen have played only one game in the past five days due to adverse weather conditions in Upstate New York. Reigning PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Pierce (Siena) will make his third attempt at a start, after having his last two scheduled starts rained out. He will be opposed by Elmira's Jimmy Ramsey (Kentucky).
Glens Falls Dragons at Amsterdam Mohawks
As the only game between two teams in the PGCBL East, the Dragons and the Mohawks will jostle for position in the league's closest divisional race. Glens Falls holds a 3-1 series lead this season, but the Mohawks were victorious in the only previous game played at Shuttleworth Park, a 9-2 Amsterdam win back on June 5. The Dragons are scheduled to send Anthony Ethington (Bellarmine) to the mound in search of his fourth win of the season, while the Mohawks will counter with Brendan McNerney (RPI).
Geneva Red Wings at Watertown Rapids
Watertown, who comes into the game as the leaders of the Central Division, welcome the West Division's Red Wings to the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. The Rapids hold a 2-0 series lead with wins on June 11 and 12, with three more games on the schedule this season, including two at McDonough Park in Geneva. Geneva is scheduled to give the ball to Jack Collins (College of Charleston) for the fourth time this season, while the Rapids are set to see Tony Rivera (Felician) toe the rubber.
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Newark Pilots
The final game of a three-game series on the season is at Colburn Park on Thursday, as Mohawk Valley goes for the season sweep. The DiamondDawgs, who sit 1.5 games behind Watertown in the PGCBL Central standings, earned victories over the Pilots on June 2 (9-7 in Newark), and on June 16 (12-5 in Little Falls). Tyler Schoff (Bryant) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the DiamondDawgs, and Trent Baker (Angelo State) is set to climb the mound at home for the Pilots.
Saugerties Stallions at Adirondack Trail Blazers
Thursday marks the first meeting of the season between Adirondack and Saugerties. The teams are only scheduled to play twice this season, with the Trail Blazers travelling to Cantine Field on July 9. Both teams come into the contest on a winning streak, with the Stallions holding a league-best five game streak and the Trail Blazers having won three consecutive contests. To extend the winning streak, the Stallions will send former PGCBL Pitcher of the Night Gregory Allard (Stony Brook) to the mound.
