Mohawks Take Second Consecutive WinIn a night at Shuttleworth Park where all 10 Mohawks to come to the plate would get on base, the Amsterdam Mohawks’ bats would carry the team against the Albany Dutchmen with a final score of 9-3. In a quality start, Zack Durant (Herkimer CC) would put in 7.1 innings of work, letting up 3 runs. He also got 6 strikeouts and let up 6 hits. Opposing starter Nick Artyzmowicz (Southern NH) would only get through 3.1 innings. He let up 4 runs, 3 of them earned. The Mohawks got 5 hits off him and Artyzmowicz would only get one strikeout. The best hitters of the night for the Mohawks were Michael Ludowig (Wake Forest), Toby Welk (Penn St. Berks), and Sam Praytor (Alabama). Ludowig would hit a 3 run home run during a 1 for 3 night. Toby Welk would tally 2 RBI during a 2 for 3 night, and Sam Praytor would hit a 2-run home run finishing 1 for 2. Elvis Peralta Jr. would go 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a stolen base. The Dutchmen bats were largely held quiet, totaling only 7 hits. However, Ubaldo Lopez (Dartmouth) would lead the team going 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. Ludowig would get the scoring started in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a 3 run home run soaring over the left field wall. The Mohawks would score again in the 4th off of a single by Welk and the run would score off of an error. Amsterdam threatened to score more but left 2 men in scoring position. The Dutchmen would score 2 in the 6th off the bat of Jerry Huntzinger (Seton Hall). The Mohawks would respond in the bottom of the 6thscoring 2 runs on a 2-RBI double from Welk. Amsterdam would once again leave 2 men in scoring position. Sam Praytor would come in as a pinch hitter as part of a triple-switch and in his first at bat of the night would hit a 2 run home run. Mike Antico (St. Johns) would score his first run as a Mohawk, showing off his wheels reaching home on a wild pitch. The Albany Dutchmen threatened in the 8th but would plate only 1 off a double by Golston Gillespie (Ole Miss). Zack Durant gets the win and Artyzmowicz gets the loss. Brooks Knapek (UMass) completed the game but did not receive a save in the 9-3 win. The Mohawks improve to 5-5 with the win and the Dutchmen fall to 6-3 with the loss. The Amsterdam Mohawks travel to Dunn field to face off against the Elmira Jackals, with a 7:00 start time. They will return home Saturday to face the Jamestown Jammers. The Albany Dutchmen will travel to Cantine Memorial Field tomorrow to face the Saugerties Stallions. |
