PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 9, 2018Through the first eight days of the PGCBL season, eight of the league's 13 teams boast a record above .500. In Saturday's action, six of those teams will face another. Friday's Results Saturday's Scheduled Games Adirondack Trail Blazers at Utica Blue Sox A Central Division battle will see the Blue Sox, who have lost three straight games since a 3-1 start, battle the winless Trail Blazers. After Newark and Saugerties' wins on Friday night, Adirondack is the only team in the PGCBL still seeking their first victory. Saturday night's game is the first of back to back games in Utica between the teams, and marks the start of nine home games in the next 12 days for the Blue Sox. Watertown Rapids at Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs The defending PGCBL Champions and the league's newest franchise will battle for an early hold on first place in the Central Division. Mohawk Valley and Watertown are two of only three teams in the league that have hit five wins on the season. The first meeting of the season between the teams saw the Rapids roll the Dawgs in their inaugural opener, claiming a 14-1 victory at Veteran's Memorial. Newark Pilots at Elmira Pioneers Newark and Elmira will try for the third time to play this season, after having games rained out on June 1 and June 3. The Pioneers and Pilots sport matching 1-4 records, and sit tied for third in the PGCBL West. The Pioneers have lost four consecutive games, while the Pilots started 0-4 before winning their first game of the season on Friday in a 12-2 triumph over the Geneva Red Wings. Albany Dutchmen at Oneonta Outlaws First place in the PGCBL East will be on the line as Damaschke Field, as the 4-2 Outlaws host the 3-2 Dutchmen. The East Division features four teams within a half game of the lead, as well as the only division with more than two teams above .500. Albany defeated Oneonta in the first meeting between the teams, and the Outlaws held a lead on the Dutchmen in the second before the game was suspended due to darkness. Both previous games were played in Albany Amsterdam Mohawks at Saugerties Stallions A night after getting their first victory of the season, the Saugerties Stallions welcome the Amsterdam Mohawks to Cantine Field. The Mohawks 3-2 record has been split exactly between home games and road games - 3-0 at home and 0-2 on the road. The first meeting of the season between the Mohawks and Stallions went the way of Amsterdam, 4-1, at Shuttleworth Park. Jamestown Jammers at Geneva Red Wings The PGCBL leading Jamestown Jammers head on the road on Saturday for a meeting with their closest competition in the West, the Geneva Red Wings. The Jammers have won five consecutive games, and currently hold the biggest divisional lead of any team in the PGCBL. Jamestown was victorious in the first meeting between the teams, which was played at Diethrick Park. The Jammers won 8-4, part of the Jammers' 5-0 home start to the season. |
