On the second day of action in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, six teams will play their home opener, while two - the Newark Pilots and the Elmira Pioneers - will take a second crack at getting their season underway.
Friday Night's Results
Saturday's Scheduled Games
Oneonta Outlaws at Albany Dutchmen
The Albany Dutchmen, who were the only team with a scheduled off day on Opening Night, open their 2018 season against division rival Oneonta. The Outlaws dropped their season opener to the Jamestown Jammers, who scored the final seven runs of the night in a 7-1 win. The Dutchmen swept the three games between the teams last season, outscoring the Outlaws 21-7.
Saugerties Stallions at Amsterdam Mohawks
Two 0-1 teams in the PGCBL East meet up for Opening Day at Shuttleworth Park, in front of what is expected to be a capacity crowd. Both the Mohawks and the Stallions scored three runs on Opening Night - Saugerties in a 4-3 loss to Glens Falls, and Amsterdam in an 11-3 loss to Utica. The Mohawks controlled the season series between the teams last season, winning seven of the ten games.
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Newark Pilots
After being rained out in Elmira on Friday, the Newark Pilots will welcome the defending PGCBL Champions for Opening Night at Colburn Park. Mohawk Valley was dropped on the first night of the season by Watertown, who welcomed themselves into the PGCBL with 14 runs. Mohawk Valley swept a doubleheader in Newark last season in the only meetings between the two clubs.
Adirondack Trail Blazers at Geneva Red Wings
For the second night in a row, the Geneva Red Wings and Adirondack Trail Blazers will do battle, with the site flipped for the back half of the home and home. Powered by two home runs from PGCBL Player of the Night Jesse Hall (LB Wallace), the Red Wings spoiled Opening Night at the Robert Smith Sports Complex with a 13-4 win.
Utica Blue Sox at Watertown Rapids
Saturday night marks the first PGCBL game at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in nearly four years, since the Watertown Rams called the park home in 2014. The Rapids and the visiting Utica Blue Sox earned decisive Opening Night victories against the past two PGCBL champions. The last meeting in the PGCBL between franchises in Utica and Watertown came on July 26, 2014, when the Utica Brewers defeated the Watertown Rams, 6-3.
Jamestown Jammers at Elmira Pioneers
The Elmira Pioneers will try again to host their season opener on Saturday night, after wet weather washed out Friday's attempt. The opponent will be the Jamestown Jammers, who pulled away for a 7-1 win over Oneonta last night. The game is a rematch of last season PGCBL West Finals, which saw the Jammers advance to the PGCBL Finals for the first time in team history.
