Alumni from PGCBL Continue to Produce![]() Joe Genord (University of South Florida) The PGCBL is continuing to spotlight the achievements of past and future players who have worn the uniform of one of the PGCBL franchises. The success of PGCBL alumni and incoming players stretches across college baseball, from Division I through Division III, with NAIA and junior college play included. Joe Genord, USF (Amsterdam 2016)- Genord has been a major part of South Florida's current eight game winning streak, and led the Bulls to a 5-0 record this week. The former Mohawk hit home runs in four consecutive games, driving in eleven runs during that time. Genord has hit safely in eight straight games for USF, and has posted a .360 batting average for the 15-6 Bulls. The junior is also tied for the team lead with four home runs. Griffin Roberts, Wake Forest (Amsterdam 2016)- The junior, who played with Genord on Amsterdam's 2016 PGCBL championship team, dominated No. 11 Louisville on Friday, striking out 13 hitters over 8.1 innings of work. Roberts allowed only one earned run, but was not involved in the decision as Wake Forest walked off with a win in the bottom of the ninth. In his first 35 innings on the mound this season, the Midlothian, Virginia native has recorded 53 strikeouts, a total that leads the ACC. David Palmer, New Haven (Mohawk Valley 2016)- A former DiamondDawg, Palmer has started off the season as one of the best pitchers in Division II baseball. The senior is 4-0, and has yet to allow an earned run in 28 innings of work. Palmer tossed six innings of shutout ball on Sunday, helping New Haven to their 14th consecutive win. Entering the weekend, Palmer was one of just four qualifying pitchers in the nation to have a 0.00 ERA, and his Chargers were ranked 14th in the nation. Kyle Walker, Rutgers (Adirondack 2015)- Despite seeing a six-game win streak snapped on Sunday, Walker has led Rutgers to a solid 11-7 start to the 2018 season. The senior has hit safely in six straight games, and currently leads the Scarlet Knights with a .417 batting average, a .491 on base percentage and 20 total hits. He scored four runs in Rutgers' series victory over FGCU, who was an NCAA Tournament qualifier last season. Kyle Skeels, Coastal Carolina (Albany 2016)- In four games this week, Coastal Carolina scored 47 runs, which included a three game sweep of conference rival Arkansas State. Skeels made a major impact as Coastal's catcher in a 26-14 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday. The former Dutchmen standout went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs scored, hitting two doubles and driving in another run on a sacrifice fly. Justin Childers, Ohio Dominican (Albany 2016-17)- Albany's former Player of the Year has been an offensive leader for the Panthers, who have won five games in a row and stand at 11-4. Childers has scored 29 runs for ODU, a mark that leads the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. He scored five runs in a 18-6 victory over Fairmont State on Tuesday, and belted his first two home runs of the season in a 7-4 win over Ohio Valley on Saturday. T.J. Stuart, Manhattan (Elmira 2017)- In his second season at Manhattan, Stuart has emerged as one of the top closers in the MAAC. This week, Stuart earned the save in each of the Jaspers' three wins, victories over LIU Brooklyn, La Salle, and Villanova. In those three appearances, the righthander worked five innings with only one hit allowed and four strikeouts. On the season, Stuart has recorded a 1.10 ERA with four saves and 15 strikeouts. Cameron Phelts, Texas College (Utica 2018)- While playing for the NAIA Texas College Steers, Phelts has become one of the best runners in NAIA baseball. Phelts, who will play for the Blue Sox in the coming season, is currently tenth in the NAIA in stolen bases with 18. He has also been the best hitter for the Steers, hitting .414 with 28 runs scored and 36 hits, both team highs. He has already been named Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week this season for his efforts. Nick Jacques, Le Moyne (Glens Falls 2017)- The former Dragon is hitting .347 for Le Moyne, who is off to a 14-6 start. Jacques is currently on a six-game hitting streak, with three of those games seeing him post multiple hits. He led the Dolphins to a victory over Molloy this weekend with a 3-for-4 effort, where he drove in three runs and scored two. Jacques also hit the first two home runs of his campaign this weekend. Dominic Toso, Bucknell (Geneva 2017-18)- Toso has entered the Bucknell lineup as a freshman, and is one of four players to have driven in ten runs for the Bison. The incoming Red Wing was Bucknell's leadoff hitter in a 10-2 victory over Navy, which saw him go 2-for-3 with a run scored and another run batted in. Bucknell played seven games in the past seven days, and Toso recorded at least one hit in six of those games. Toso will be heading to Geneva this summer to play for the Red Wings.
