Player and Pitcher of the Week: Week Seven PC: Paul Dewa/Newark Pilots The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League has announced that Cody Wiktorski (Newark) has been named the Player of the Week and Michael Messier (Utica) has been named Pitcher of the Week for the week for the week covering July 13 to July 19.
Wiktorski, who attends St. John Fisher College, has been named Player of the Week after hitting .414 with two home runs and 15RBIs over the past seven days. The 15 RBIs over the seven-day span are three more than the next closest player. Wiktorski also drilled six doubles and a triple, both good for tops in the league. His 1.33 OPS over the past seven days is the third-highest mark in the league and his 11.267 Runs Created are the most in the league for the week.
On the season, Wiktorski is hitting .315 with four home runs and 24 RBIs. He has stolen 13 bases with 13 doubles. Wiktorski’s OPS currently sits at .925 with an on-base percentage of .350.
This year at St. John Fisher, Wiktorski hit .331 in 40 games (all starts) for the 25-18 Cardinals. The Penfield native drove in 25 runs and posted an on-base percentage of .363.
Michael Messier, who attends the Bellarmine University, has been named Pitcher of the Week after a great start on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Messier allowed just four hits in eight scoreless innings while striking out four batters to get the win for the third-place Brewers.
With the great start, Messier is now 3-1 with a 0.68, which is the lowest mark in the league among qualifies. The southpaw has struck out 31 batters and opponents are hitting just .199 off him.
At Bellarmine this year, the Milton, Georgia-native went 3-1 in 11 appearances (two starts). He also struck out 32 batters and surrendered only 11 walks.
