Last Night’s Games:

Amsterdam 14 Victor 4 (Game One): The Amsterdam Mohawks used a strong start from Jake Mielock and two home runs from Handsome Monica to defeat the Victor RailRiders, 14-4, in game one of a doubleheader.

Mielock didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning as he picked up the win after allowing just the one hit in 5.2 innings.

The Mohawks got out to an early lead in the first on an RBI groundout and a Craig Dedelow RBI double. Amsterdam added five runs in the third with three coming on Monica’s first home run of the game. The two other runs came on a sacrifice fly and a Hunter Tackett RBI double. Monica hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Amsterdam lead to 8-0.

Victor scored three of its four runs in the sixth inning as Matt Fallon hit a two-RBI single and Mark Cardinalli hit an RBI double. Amsterdam got the three runs back in the next half inning plus some. Tyler Kirkpatrick hit an RBI single, a bases loaded walk scored a run, Macy Holdsworth hit an RBI single, Justin Yurchak and Kyle Dean hit RBI singles and a bases loaded hit by pitch accounted for the six-run inning. Victor got a run back in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch but it wasn’t nearly enough as Amsterdam prevailed.

Amsterdam 6 Victor 1 (Game Two): The Amsterdam Mohawks struck for five runs in the first inning to cruise to a 6-1 win over the Victor RailRiders and sweep a doubleheader.

A Brendan Tracy RBI single scored the first run of the game, Handsome Monica followed with a two-run shot, his third home run of the twin bill, and Kyle Dean hit a two-RBI double. Scott Manea drove in the final Amsterdam run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single. Victor’s lone run came in the sixth on a Matt Fallon RBI single.

Joe Nellis struck out five batters in five scoreless innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter. Joe DeAngelis gave up the six Amsterdam runs to take the loss.

Utica 3 Saugerties 1: Two runs in the bottom of the sixth propelled the Utica Brewers to a 3-1 win over the Saugerties Stallions.

Kyle Schade broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI double for the Brewers in the sixth and Dominick Bregar added an insurance run later in the inning with an RBI double of his own.

Both teams scored a lone run in the second inning with Saugerties’ coming on an Eric Downey RBI single and Utica’s coming on a Taylor Olmstead solo home run.

Utica starter Ryan Simpler struck out seven batters in seven solid innings to get the win. Simpler allowed just the one Saugerties run (unearned) and did not walk a batter. Nick Williams also pitched well, but he gave up the three Utica runs to take the loss. Williams struck out six batters in seven innings of work.

Mohawk Valley at Adirondack: The game was postponed and will be made-up in a doubleheader on July 28 in Little Falls.

Glens Falls 10 Albany 6: The Glens Falls Dragons scored multiple runs in three of the first four innings to defeat the Albany Dutchmen, 10-6, at Bob Bellizzi Field.

Ryan Hooper hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give Glens Falls an earl 2-0 lead. In the next inning, Mark Powell hit an RBI single and Jake Vieth hit a two-RBI single to give the Dragons a 5-0 lead. Albany scored three of its own in the bottom half on a Simon Palenchar RBI single, a Grayson Lewis RBI single and a Zach Remillard RBI single.

After a scoreless third inning, Glens Falls plated four in the fourth to again extend its lead. Richard Gugliemi hit an RBI double and Danny Oliveri hit a three-RBI double to account for the four runs. Albany scored a lone run in the seventh on a Remillard sacrifice fly and Glens Falls also scored a run in the next half inning on a wild pitch. The Dutchmen rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded walk and a Jake Weiller RBI single, but it wasn’t enough.

Newark 13 Elmira 3: The Newark Pilots used a five-run second inning and a seven-run third inning to defeat the Elmira Pioneers, 13-3, at Colburn Park.

Before the big Newark innings, Elmira had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a Mike Korchak two-RBI single. But Newark’s five-run second gave the Pilots the lead for good. Blake Valley hit an RBI single, Cody Wiktorski hit a two-RBI double and Mark Martin hit a two-RBI single to plate the five runs. Then in the third, Corey Lerche hit an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball, Gabe Levanti scored on a passed ball, Wiktorski hit a three-RBI triple and William Gorman hit a sacrifice fly.
