PGCBL Player and Pitcher of the Week: Week Six PC: Corey Mansfield/Brokenbatblog.com (@Broken_Bat_Blog) The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League has announced that two Victor RailRiders have been named the Player of the Week and the Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week covering July 6 to July 12.
Evan Fernandez, who attends Jacksonville University, has been named the Player of the Week for Week Six. Fernandez led the PGCBL with a .480 batting average over the seven-day span and also clubbed two home runs. Fernandez drove in a total of seven runs and he had three multi-hit games.
On the season, Fernandez is hitting .371 with 16 RBIs and a .946 OPS. He has scored 20 runs and hit five doubles for the second-place RailRiders.
Mitch Patishall, who attends the University of Cincinnati, has been named Pitcher of the Week after pitching a total of 14 scoreless innings during the week.
On July 6, Patishall tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters to get the win for Victor in a 5-0 victory over Utica. Two days later, the right-hander struck out 12 batters in a complete game shutout over the Albany Dutchmen. Patishall allowed just four hits and walked two batters.
With the two wins, Patishall is now 4-2 on the summer with a 2.58 ERA. He has struck out 41 batters in 38.1 innings. Opponents are hitting just .180 off the Pendleton, Indiana-native. That average is good for the second best among qualifying PGCBL pitchers.
