In the top of the ninth, Andrew Turner scored on a Matt Pagano RBI double and the winning run crossed the plate on a Ryan Stekl RBI single. A Dan Vucovich RBI single in the bottom of the ninth cut the lead to one, but it wasn’t enough as the DiamondDawgs held on to get the win. The Brewers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first on an Aaron Smith RBI single and extended the lead to 2-0 in the second on an Adam Pexton RBI single. Mohawk Valley cut into the deficit in the fourth on a Turner RBI double and tied the game in the seventh on a Matt Pagano RBI double. Zachary Vennaro pitched the final three innings for Mohawk Valley to get the win and Tim Benner allowed the two ninth inning runs to take the loss. Utica 5 Mohawk Valley 0 (Game Two): A four-run fourth inning propelled the Utica Brewers to a 5-0 win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Friday, salvaging a split in a doubleheader between the two clubs. A Kyle Schade RBI single in the bottom of the third inning scored the first run of the game and in the fourth, Dan Vucovich and Ryan Cox hit RBI singles and two bases loaded walks scored the final two runs of the seven-inning game. Collin Gee allowed five hits as he tossed a complete game in earning the win for Utica, while David Palmer allowed the first two Utica runs to take the loss for Mohawk Valley. Amsterdam 3 Adirondack 0: The Amsterdam Mohawks won their eighth-straight game by beating the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 3-0, at Shuttleworth Park. The Mohawks struck first in the bottom of the first as Riley Mahan led off with a home run. Lone runs were also scored in the fifth on a Macy Holdsworth RBI double and in the eighth on a bases loaded walk. Fernando Guerrero struck out eight batters in seven scoreless innings while giving up five hits to get the win for Amsterdam, while Will Jahn gave up the three Amsterdam runs in seven innings of work for Adirondack in taking the loss. Saugerties 6 Newark 2: The Saugerties Stallions scored five runs in the top of the eighth to come back and beat the Newark Pilots, 6-2, on the road at Colburn Park. In the top of the eighth, Dylan Sprague tied the game at two with an RBI triple, Nick Russo put the Stallions ahead with a two-RBI double, a groundout scored a run and an error scored the final run of the inning. The Stallions’ first run of the game came in the third on a Sprague RBI single. Newark tied the game at one in the bottom of the sixth on a Kyle Norman sacrifice fly and took a 2-1 lead in the seventh on a Kyle Bartleman sacrifice fly. Andrew Carkner allowed one run in three innings of relief to get the win for Saugerties and Charlie Sobieraski gave up five of the six Saugerties runs to take the loss. Elmira 11 Victor 6: The Elmira Pioneers scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead them to an 11-6 win over the Victor RailRiders at Dunn Field on Friday. Tommy Mirabelli drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the second and a bases loaded walk, a double play, a Justin Hayes two-RBI single and double steal accounted for the six-run inning. Victor responded with three runs in the top of the third on a fielder’s choice, a wild pitch and a Chris Lehane RBI single. Elmira got one of those runs back in the home half of the inning on a wild pitch. No more runs were scored until the bottom of the fifth when Hayden Kelly hit a grand slam for Elmira to make it an 11-3 game. Victor scored lone runs in the sixth on a Dale Wickham RBI single, in the eighth on an RBI groundout and in the ninth on a Nolan Schultz RBI double but it wasn’t enough as Elmira came out on top. Kyano Cummings picked up the win for Elmira and extended his PGCBL strikeout lead to 55 with nine strikeouts on the night. Evan McAvinchey allowed seven runs in four innings for Victor to take the loss. Glens Falls 17 Albany 8: The Glens Falls Dragons got back above .500 as they erupted for 17 runs to beat the Albany Dutchmen, 17-8, at Bob Bellizzi Field. The Dragons’ big inning came in the third when they put an eight spot on the board. Jake Vieth hit an RBI triple, Brennan Price hit an RBI single, an error scored a run, Colby Stratten hit a two-RBI single and a passed ball scored the final run of the eight-run inning. Both teams scored a run in the fourth—Glens Falls’ coming on a Tyler Phillips RBI double and Albany’s coming on an error. In the fifth, Vieth hit an RBI single and a bases loaded hit by pitch plated a run for the visitors. Albany came back with three of its own in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and a Slayton Vaughn two-RBI single. Glens Falls came right back a three-run inning on a Ryan Hooper RBI double, a Mark Powell RBI single and a double play. In the fifth multi-run inning of the game, Albany scored three in the seventh to cut into the Glens Falls lead. The runs came on a bases loaded walk and a Grayson Lewis two-RBI single. The fourth and final three-run inning of the game came in the top of the eighth as the Dragons put a three spot up on a Matthew Flynn RBI single, a bases loaded walk and a bases loaded hit by pitch. A Zach Remillard RBI double to right in the ninth plated a run for Albany, but it was too little, too late and Glens Falls prevailed. Nick Duthu allowed one run in two innings of relief to get the win for Glens Falls and Mike Reitcheck gave up nine runs (three earned) in four innings of work for Albany to take the loss. Tonight’s Games: Albany at Saugerties (DH) 5 p.m.: The Albany Dutchmen and Saugerties Stallions will meet for another doubleheader on Saturday. Albany won game one of a doubleheader between the two teams on Thursday before game two was postponed and the Dutchmen swept a doubleheader between the two teams last Friday. Victor at Glens Falls (DH) 5 p.m.: Coming off a large 17-7 win over Albany, the Glens Falls Dragons will host a doubleheader against Victor on Saturday at East Field. Adirondack at Utica 6:35 p.m.: West Division rivals Adirondack and Utica will meet for the seventh time this season on Saturday. The season series is tied, 3-3. Newark at Mohawk Valley 6:35 p.m.: Coming off a split of a doubleheader against Utica, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs will take on the Newark Pilots in Little Falls on Saturday. Amsterdam at Elmira 7:05 p.m.: The top two teams in the league meet at Dunn Field on Saturday as the Amsterdam Mohawks, riding an eight-game win streak, take on the Elmira Pioneers.
