Glens Falls, N.Y.- night the Glens Falls Dragons (15-13) recorded seven hits to the five of the Saugerties Stallions (10-16), but did not score a run for their efforts. at East Field Glens Falls pounded out 11 hits and 12 runs in the first five innings, and went on to defeat Saugerties 15-2.
Glens Falls jumped to a big early lead in the first. After Danny Oliveri (Triton) walked, Mark Powell (Bucknell) continued his hot hitting with a single. Oscar Rodriguez (St. Thomas) was then hit by a pitch, and Tyler Phillips (Herkimer CC) doubled down the left field line to make it 2-0. The Dragons added two more runs when the Stallions committed a fielding and a throwing error on the same play to make it 4-0. Colby Stratten (Indiana) then smacked an RBI single to make it a five run game.
Saugerties got a run back in the top of the third when Pat Dorrian (Herkimer CC) picked up an RBI on a ground out that scored Charlie Fina (Ulster CC).
The Dragons got the run right back in the third as Oscar Rodriguez reached on a bloop single, and advanced to third on a throwing error. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Phillips to give the Dragons the 6-1 edge. The Stallions cut it to 6-2 in the top of the fourth when they got back to back singles from Dylan Sprague (Fairleigh Dickinson) and John Navenche (St. Bonaventure). Sprague raced home from third after the Dragons threw to second on a steal attempt.
Glens Falls tacked on three more runs in the fourth as Powell, Rodriguez and Jake Vieth (Tacoma CC) picked up RBIs, and three more in the fifth as Bryce Aldridge (University of Indianapolis), Oliveri, and Powell drove in runs to make it 12-2.
Ryan Hooper (UC-Davis) ripped a two run double in the eighth, and Powell added another RBI to provide the final margin.
Powell was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, while Oliveri had three hits for Glens Falls. Hooper chipped in a pair of hits and Phillips drove in three runs.
Glens Falls starter Alex Yarem (Campbell) got the win on the mound. Yarem, now 3-0, went five innings, yielding just three hits, while striking out four and walking one. Joseph Ducoing (St.Thomas Aquinas) took the loss for the Stallions.
Glens Falls returns home night to take on the division leading Amsterdam Mohawks. It will be Glens Falls Dragons Poster Night at East Field. The first 500 fans receive Glens Falls Dragons team photo posters, and there will be a free autograph session after the game.
