AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — After an 11-0 thrashing of the Boonville Baseball Club Friday night, the Amsterdam Mohawks (10-1) dominated once more with an 8-0 home win over the Oneonta Outlaws (6-7) on Saturday. With the victory, Amsterdam improves to 2-0 this summer over Oneonta, with both wins coming at home.

Aidan Kidd (NJIT) made his third start of the season for the Mohawks and in the process, continued his perfect play on the mound. Against the Outlaws, the sophomore pitched five scoreless innings without allowing a hit, fanning eight batters against two walks. Kidd is now 2-0 on the year, and across 13 innings, hasn’t allowed a run while racking up 24 strikeouts with just six free passes.

On offense, Amsterdam scored in each of the first four innings against Oneonta starter Kyle Mahady (St. Peter’s). In the first, the Mohawks strung together two straight hits after recording two quick outs, as Mark Black (Wake Forest) doubled and then came home on a single from Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State). An inning later, Josh Overbeek (Pittsburgh) scored after a Michael O’Shaugnessy (Davidson) sac-fly. That was followed up by an RBI single from Cameron Love (Rutgers) which drove home Connor Moore (Florida State) to extend the lead to 3-0.

The bottom of the third saw two more runs for Amsterdam, as Black notched another double, allowing Ian Petrutz (Maryland) to score from second. After that, Black found his way home thanks to a sac-fly from Zach Gardiner (Marshall) to make the score 5-0. Mahady returned to the mound in the fourth, but things wouldn’t get any easier after he loaded the bases with no outs. Gage Miller (Bishop State CC) made his mark by driving a double into left field that scored both Moore and O’Shaughnessy. Petrutz, the next batter up, hit a fly ball that allowed Love to tag up and score, giving Amsterdam an 8-0 lead that it held the rest of the ballgame.

In the top of the sixth, Mohawks reliever Quin Konuszewski (Pittsburgh) did walk the bases loaded, but worked his way out of the jam to keep the Outlaws scoreless. Then, Chris Suter (Union) came out of the bullpen and pitched two scoreless frames but also gave up Oneonta’s only three hits of the contest. Nolan Lamere (Clarke) struck out the side in the top of the ninth to end the evening and hand the Outlaws their fourth straight loss.

Amsterdam is on the road tomorrow for a doubleheader vs. Watertown, with games at 5:00 and 7:30. Oneonta is also on the road with a chance to get back to .500 against Boonville.
