ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta Outlaws took the field Saturday night for the last time during the 2017, season as they faced the Saugerties Stallions in a double header contest. The Outlaws split the series with the Stallions as they lost the first game 9-5 but won the second 7-4.
Mike White (Stonehill) started on the hill for the Outlaws in the first game. The freshman would be able to get through the first two innings without any damage. In the bottom of the second, the Outlaws would score two runs on Aron Fried’s (Quinnipiac) two run homerun that gave the Outlaws an early lead. Heading into the top of the third, Matt Forlow (Manhattan) would reach base by getting hit by a pitch, he would later score on Jesse Uttendorfer’s (NJIT) RBI double. Uttendorfer would come around to score on Jack Gonzalez’s (Stetson) RBI double. After Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) hit a single, Clay Simmons would bring him in with a sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless third inning for the Outlaws, the Stallions would build a bigger lead by scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth to go up 5-2 against Oneonta. The Outlaws would make a comeback and score two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead down to 1. But the Saugerties offense would be too much for White as they were able to score 4 runs in the top of the sixth to seal the victory for the Stallions. White would pitch a complete game while giving up 9 runs on 12 hits.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Outlaws jumped out to an early lead as they scored 3 and 4 runs consecutively in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings. After a leadoff single by Matt Deans (USC Sumtner), Ian Fair (Northeastern) would hit him in on his RBI triple. Fair would later score on a sacrifice fly by Mark Fylnn (Columbia). Nathan Wrighter (Bryant) would reach base on a hit by pitch and would later score on Ben Dubas' (Alvernia) two run homerun.
Jake Hershman (Wofford) would start on the mound for the Outlaws, he would go 5 innings and give up 1 run on 4 hits. The Stallions would get one run back in the top of the fourth when Jack Gonzalez scored on Nicolas Teitter’s (Hudson Valley C.C.) RBI single. The Stallions would make a comeback in the top of the sixth as they scored three runs to cut the lead down 3, but Danny Hobbs (Siena) would come in to close out the seventh inning while striking out one batter.
The Outlaws finished the season 14-30 and look forward to next summer for another great year of baseball.
