SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions returned to action at Cantine Field by defeating the Glens Falls Dragons by a final score of 6-3 on Thursday night in a pitching matchup between Connor Romano (Rhode Island) and Avery Short (Siena).
Short worked his way into a jam in the top of the first, allowing two walks, eventually stranding two runners. Romano was quickly in trouble after hitting the first batter he faced and eventually loading the bases after back to back walks to Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) and Matt Forlow (Manhattan). Jack Gonzalez (Stetson) hit a 2RBI single to give the Stallions a 2-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) added to the lead with another 2RBI double scoring Forlow and Feinstein making the lead after one inning 4-0 Stallions.
Short continued to deal as the Stallions added another run in the bottom half of the second after an RBI single from Feinstein, scoring Luke Pettersen (Minnesota) to make the lead 5-0.
Short ran into some trouble in the top of the fourth giving up a run to Anthony Butler (St. Lawrence) on an RBI double, scoring Dalton Ney (Lee) to make the score 5-1.
The Dragons came back in the sixth to score two and make the lead 5-3, ending Short’s night. Saugerties would go on to score another run in the bottom half of the seventh after back to back triples by Feinstein and Forlow, to make the lead 6-3. Matt Pushard (Maine) came in to the top of the ninth to close the game for the Stallions and improve their record to 16-20.
The Stallions play their next game on Friday, July 20 at home against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs.
