Dragons Soar to 15-3 Victory Over Saugerties

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Glens Falls Dragons (12-23) took a commanding lead in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Saugerties Stallions (15-18) 15-3 Friday night at East Field.

The Dragons roared to a 5-0 lead during their first turn at bat, after a pair of RBIs from Anthony Vaglica (LIU Post) and Brandon Torres (Oneonta) each allowed a runner to cross the plate. Moments later, Matt Hamel (Siena) notched a single to load the bases, and Saugerties’ pitcher Mark Meyer (Marshall) walked Dan Lowndes (Siena) to bring in another runner. With the game at 3-0, Cullen Cicotte (William Peace) tallied a single that allowed two more to score.

Glens Falls added to their lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run homerun from Torres that would bring the score to 7-0 in favor of the Dragons through two innings of play.

Again in the fourth inning, Torres claimed an RBI to put Glens Falls head by eight runs.

The Stallions got on the board early in the sixth with a single from Matt Forlow (Manhattan) to bring in a runner, making the score 8-1 Dragons.

Later in the inning, Jared Morello (St. Joseph’s) capitalized on a series of wild throws and crossed the plate for Glens Falls, adding to their lead.

The Dragons walked in a runner early in the seventh, and Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) notched a single to bring in another runner, making the score 9-3 Glens Falls.

Dan Lowndes tallied a double that would allow collegiate teammate Matt Hamel to cross the plate for the Dragons. Brian Uliana followed suit, notching a double to bring in Lowndes and make the score 11-3 Glens Falls at the end of seven.

The following inning, Matt Hamel kept the home team’s spirits high, hitting an in-the-park homerun with two on base to bring the score to 14-3. Dalton Ney singled to bring in another run for the Dragons, ending the inning, and the game at 15-3 Glens Falls.

The winning pitcher was James Varella (LIU Post), and Mark Meyer took the loss.

The Dragons return home Wednesday night to face the Oneonta Outlaws. First pitch is set for 7PM.
