GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Glens Falls Dragons (10-20) erased an early-game deficit and propelled themselves to a 15-12 win over the Saugerties Stallions (14-16) Monday night at East Field.
The Stallions got out to a blazing start, leading by a score of 5-0 by the end of two innings.
Late in the third, the Dragons started their comeback with a double from Matt Hamel (Siena) to bring in Anthony Butler (St. Lawrence) and Brian Uliana (Rider), making the score 5-2 Saugerties.
Early in the fourth, the Dragons replaced starting pitcher Alex Phillips (Bellarmine) with a mid-season addition to the roster, Peter Masterson (Kutztown).
The Stallions notched another run early in the sixth, bringing the score to 6-2 Saugerties.
Glens Falls caught fire in the bottom of the fourth, after a single from Butler allowed Brian Wasilewski (Buffalo) and Jared Drizin (Bucknell) to cross the plate, narrowing the gap to 6-4 Stallions. Moments later, Nick Jacques (Le Moyne) notched a single to bring in another runner, leaving the home team down by just one run. Later in the inning, Dragons’ Dan Lowndes brought in another runner to take the lead at 7-6. Glens Falls ended the inning ahead by two, 8-6.
Early in the sixth, Saugerties’ Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) singled to bring in Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth), making the score 8-7 Glens Falls. A wild pitch opened the window for another Stallion to cross the plate. Matt Forlow (Manhattan) allowed the visitors to take the lead with a single that scored another runner, bringing the game to 9-8 Saugerties.
Dragons’ Jared Drizin notched a single to bring in a run, tying the game at 9 in the bottom of the sixth. Saugerties introduced pitcher Avery Short (Siena), who walked Butler with bases loaded to send another Dragon across the plate, giving them the lead at 10-9. Nick Jacques tallied a single to score two more. Brian Uliana singled to allow another runner in, ending the inning with a Dragon lead, 13-9.
Early in the seventh, Matt Feinstein and Tyler Kelder each notched a single to send Stallions across the plate, bringing the score to 13-11 Dragons.
Matt Feinstein singled again early in the eighth to send Matt Forlow in, narrowing the Saugerties deficit to one run, 13-12.
The Dragons extended their lead late in the eight with a single from Jared Morello (St. Joseph’s) to bring in Phoenix Hernandez (Southern NH). Brian Uliana doubled to send Morello across the plate, ending the inning, and the game, with a score of 15-12 Glens Falls.
The winning pitcher was Peter Masterson (1-0), and Duncan Amrein (Bellarmine) recorded the save.
The Dragons return to East Field on Thursday to face the Albany Dutchmen. The first pitch is set for 7PM.
