SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions were one out away from earning a home win over the East Division-leading Amsterdam Mohawks, but a two-run homer from Liam Wilson (Canisius) in the ninth sprung the Mohawks to a 5-4 victory at Cantine Field.
The Stallions quickly fell behind 1-0 after a Wilson RBI double, scoring Eric Rivera (Florida Atlantic). The Stallions escaped further trouble on an inning ending diving play by first baseman Jack Gonzalez (Stetson), saving another run from scoring.
The Mohawks added another run to their lead in the top of the fifth after a passed ball from Nick Massa (Manhattan) allowed a runner to score on him forgetting to cover the plate.
The Stallions had some fight in them. Coming back in the bottom of the fifth, the Stallions scored one on a Sam Russo (Butler) RBI double, scoring Matt Forlow (Manhattan).
The Mohawks added another run in the top of the seventh to go up 3-1. The Stallions would again come back in a big inning to retake the lead 4-3 after doubles by Russo and Forlow, leading the charge. Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) hit a sac fly scoring Luke Petterson (Minnesota).
Matt Pushard (Maine) came in to close the game for the Stallions in the top of the ninth. Wilson hit a 2-run homerun off of Pushard, to seal the win for the Mohawks 5-4.
The Stallions play their next game on Sunday, July 9 at the Albany Dutchmen.
