GENEVA, N.Y. - On Thursday night, the script was written all about Elmira, as the Pioneers defeated the Red Wings 21-4 at McDonough Park.
The major standout was Elmira catcher Marshall Gilbert (John A Logan), who finished the game with 2 HR and 8 RBI, going 5-6 in the process. Three other Pioneers batters had at least 3 hits, including Anthony Nucerino (UConn), Troy Dixon (Samford), and Allbry Major (Xavier).
For Geneva, Jake Evans (Alabama Southern CC) hit a solo home run (2), while Mikey Arman (Kenyon) and Joseph Tassin (Bossier Parish CC) finished with a pair of hits. Tassin collected a couple RBIs.
Zach Eggers (Old Dominion) earned the victory on the mound for Elmira, tossing 4.0 innings while striking out 4 and giving up 3 runs. Andy Reed (Elmira College) got slated with the loss for Geneva, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing four earned runs.
Geneva (16-8) returns to action on Friday when they take on the West Division-leading Jammers in Jamestown.
