JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The Jamestown Jammers’ late game surge powered the team to a 4-3 walk off victory over the Elmira Pioneers on Sunday. The Jammers are now 10 games over .500 (15-5) and the Elmira Pioneers fall to 7-13.
The Jammers took the early lead in the bottom of the first, as Christ Conley (Canisius) led the game off with a double and scored on a sac fly by Ben Brookover (UTSA) to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd the Jammers were able to add another run. Collin Stack (UMBC) got things started by ripping a triple to deep right field and scoring on a fielder’s choice to stretch their lead to 2-0 over the Pioneers.
The Pioneers cut the lead in half but scoring a run in the top of the 4th with 3 singles in the inning (RBI single by Joseph Preziuso) (Canisius). In the top of the 5th the Pioneers were able to tie the game up with an RBI single by Conor Grammes (Xavier). The Pioneers scored in 3 straight innings and took the lead in the top of the 6th to make it a 3-2 game.
Jammers starter Michael Ginther (Canisius) had another solid outing by going 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. Elmira’s starter Jackson Tedder (Virginia) went 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.
The Jammers tied the game up in the bottom of the 8th, when Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) scored on an error. In the bottom of the 9th, Collin Stack led things off with a single, and a bunt base hit by Alex O’Donnell (Mercyhurst) made it 1st and 2nd with no one out. Ryan Markey (St. Johns) laid down a sac bunt, but the pitcher made an errant throw to first and Collin Stack came around and scored the winning run.
The Jammers defeat the Elmira Pioneers 4-3 in a thrilling game to continue their hot start (15-5) and to lead the West Division by 1.5 games
