ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta Outlaws rode a strong performance from starting pitcher Matt Ellymer (Wofford College) to a 9-6 victory over the visiting Utica Blue Sox on Saturday night. Ellmyer improved his record to 1-1 on the season, as the sophomore threw 6 innings in the team’s win over the Blue Sox.
Utica would strike first early in the game when first baseman Zane Harris (Wright State) would lead the inning off with a single and then later score on Ryan Sargent’s (Ohio University) RBI double.
The Outlaws would be quick to respond when Utica’s starter Brian Dolan (UMass Lowell) walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning; Matt Tsukroff (Binghamton University) stepped up to the plate and ripped an RBI double over the left fielder’s head scoring two runs. For the rest of the game, both teams would fight back and forth for the lead, forecasting a close game.
Ellmyer took care of business on the mound tonight for the Outlaws, he went 6 innings, had 6 K’s and allowed 4 runs on 13 hits. Mike Brown (Dartmouth College) and Chris Tracz (Marist College) would lead the hitting for the outlaws as both players had two hits each in tonight’s game.
Although the Blue Sox beat the Outlaws 14-8 in hits tonight, Oneonta was able to limit the free base runners and bring home another victory. The Outlaws have improved to 6-12 on the season as Utica falls to 4-15.
The Outlaws will hit the road and face the Geneva Red Wings tomorrow at 4pm.
