GENEVA, N.Y. - On Saturday night, the Geneva Red Wings (13-6) defeated the Adirondack Trail Blazers (8-10) by a final score of 3-1.
Another two hour ballgame at McDonough Park resulted in the fourth straight victory for the Wings. This one was due in large part to a complete game effort from starter Brian Reed (RIT).
A leadoff triple in the top of the fifth from Bailey Collins (Concordia (CA)) would set up a 1 out, RBI single from Bay McIntosh (Florida Tech) to open scoring. The score would stay 1-0 in favor of Adirondack until the bottom of the 7th.
In the frame, Adirondack starter Michael Delease (Central Conn. State) would start with a strikeout, but a dropped third strike would allow Jake Evans (Alabama Southern CC) to reach base. This would prove detrimental, as Evans would open Geneva scoring following William Simoneit’s (Cornell) third double in two games and a Joseph Tassin (Bossier Parish CC) RBI single. An RBI double down the left field line from Matt Smith (UC Davis) would put the Red Wings on top for good, 2-1. A couple walks from the Adirondack bullpen would push one more across for the Wings in the bottom of the 7th.
Delease held the Geneva lineup to only one hit through 6.0 innings, but the Wings came alive for 3 hits and 3 runs in the 7th. Delease would exit with one out in the 7th, and reliever Matthew Valin (Onondaga CC) would pitch the rest of the way.
Reed would finish the game with 10 strikeouts in a complete game victory. Working exclusively with fastballs and changeups, Reed threw 116 pitches and scattered 6 hits.
The Wings have won 4 straight and are taking on the Oneonta Outlaws (5-12) at home tomorrow at 4:05 PM.
