JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers shutout the Oneonta Outlaws and won 8-0 to make it seven straight wins. The Jammers improve to 9-2 on the season.
Starting pitcher Christian Young (NCCC), who was recently drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 21st round in last week’s MLB Draft, had another strong outing. Young only went 3 innings, but didn’t allow a run and only gave up 1 hit, while striking out 3. The bullpen took care of the rest, by combining for 6 shutout innings. Kyle Backofen (Louisiana-Monroe) threw 3 innings, 1 hit. Quinn Taylor (Felician) 1 inning, 1 hit. Jacob Gilhaus (Kalamazoo) 1 inning, 0 hits. Cory Blessing (Ohio) didn’t allow a hit and closed it out in the 9th to complete a great performance from the Jammers pitching staff.
The Jammers offense took care of business as well by totaling 8 runs in the game. The scoring got started in the bottom of the 2nd as Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) lead the inning off with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Casey Vincent (St. Bonaventure) to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Jammers continued its offense in the bottom of the 3rd as they scored 5 runs on 3 hits. Ben Brookover (UTSA) got the big inning started with a single, followed by back to back walks to load the basses, Chris Estrada (UTSA) collected an RBI with a hit by a pitch and then Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) ripped a 2-run double to make it4-0. The Jammers would compile 5 runs in the inning to make it 6-0 after 3.
The Outlaws were unable to get anything going offensively as the Jammers shut them out and the score would stay at 6-0 until the bottom of the 8th as the Jammers tacked on 2 more runs to make it 8-0 and that would be the final score as the Jammers stay hot and win their 7th straight game (9-2) overall. The Oneonta Outlaws fall to 3-9.
