ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta Outlaws defeated the visiting Geneva Red Wings by a final score of 9-8 on Thursday night at Damaschke Field, where both teams combined for 32 hits in an extra-innings battle.
The Red Wings got off to an early lead, as Cal Lawrence (Binghamton University) would allow seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 3.2 innings. Every player in the Geneva lineup recorded at least one and five Red Wings players recorded two hits.
Down 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Outlaws managed to rally and string a few hits together. Stone Pellegrino (Wofford) ripped a triple to right center that brought in Reed Massey (Wofford) and Matt Tsukroff (Binghamton University) to cut the Red Wings lead down to three.
The sophomore starter for the Outlaws was relieved by his fellow teammate, Greg Satriale (Binghamton University), who managed to keep the Outlaws in the game by only allowing one run in 4.2 innings of work. The freshman pitcher would also tally up seven strikeouts in his career debut for the Outlaws.
Oneonta trailed 8-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth, when Tsukroff drove in the game tying RBIs. Tsukroff would end the day going 1-for-1 with two RBIs before being relieved by Connor Wasilnak (Stevenson University) in the field.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Chandler Engel’s (USC Sumter) hit a single that scored the game-winning run that put the Outlaws on top over the Red Wings. Andrew Workman (Quinnipiac) would earn the win, making him 1-0 on the season. Colby Mullins (Andrew) received the loss and fell to 1-1 on the year.
The Outlaws are back in action tomorrow, as they hit the road to play the Jamestown Jammers at 7 p.m.
