Saugerties, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions (6-4) defeated the Elmira Pioneers (5-5) by a final score of 10-0 at Cantine Field on Wednesday night.
Entering this game, the Stallions were riding a big two game winning streak. This gave them their first record above .500 for the season. Their biggest off the two wins was a 5-3 win in 10 innings over the defending league champs, Amsterdam Mohawks. The Stallions had a commanding win over the Pioneers, blanking Elmira while scoring 10 runs.
Tonight’s game was a pitcher’s duel through the first 5 innings between Elmira’s Grant Donahue (University of Virginia) and Saugerties’ Avery Short (Siena College). Grant Donahue was pulled after the fifth inning. Donahue’s stat line includes 5.0 IP 3H 0ER 4K.
Avery Short (Siena) pitched 7 scoreless inning, only allowing 5H, 0ER, and 4K. This season, Avery has yet to give up a run in 10 IP for the Stallions.
The Stallions scored five runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to open up the game. The Stallions were able to bat around the order. Jeff Palczewski (Buffalo) led off the inning with a walk. Luke Pettersen (Minnesota) was able to reach base safely after the Pioneers’ center fielder couldn't come down with the catch. Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) and Jack Gonzalez both walk, Gonzalez was able to bring Jeff Palczewski home. Matt Pushard (Maine) was then HBP, and Luke Pettersen scored. Connor Powers (Albany) was then walked, during his at bat their was a past ball and a run scored. Nick Teitter (HVCC) hit a high fly ball to right field, the outfielder was unable to locate the ball as it got lost in the sky. Tyler Kelder (St.Bonaventure) also had an RBI in the inning.
The Stallions went on to score 5 runs in the eight inning. Nick Campana (Hartford), Jack Gonzalez (Stetson), Matt Pushard, Connor Powers , Tyler Kelder were the five Stallions the were able to score in the eight inning.
The Stallions improve their win streak to three game.The Stallions play their next game on Thursday, June 15, at 7:00pm as they take on Amsterdam at home.
