BOONVILLE, N.Y. - In their second matchup in 2017, the Adirondack Trail Blazers repeat the result from June 1, beating the Elmira Pioneers 8-5 in Boonville.
The home team scored quickly in the bottom of the first, with John Michael Boswell (Furman) crossing home plate off a bases-loaded walk to Bailey Collins (Concordia-Irvine).
In the top of the second, the Pioneers made a comeback and took the lead. Brett Rodriguez (Wofford) hit an RBI single and was later hit home by Bryan Seamster (Ole Miss). Elmira scored three runs in that inning and claimed a 3-1 lead.
In the fourth, Elmira would bring another run around, taking a 4-1 lead, but saw that disappear quickly. Boswell hit a three-RBI double and Riley Schaefer (Texas Lutheran) also collected an RBI, giving the Blazers a four-run inning and a 6-4 lead.
Another RBI double by Boswell in the bottom of the sixth gave Adirondack an extra insurance run and it was enough to seal the deal, as the Blazers held on 8-4. Boswell finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs.
Rodriguez, Blake Shinkle (Kansas) and Brett Vosik (Kansas) each collected two hits for the Pioneers.
Jake Walker (Uni. Rhode Island) won his first matchup in 2017 and Jackson Tedder (Virginia) recorded his first loss. Zach Zientarski (Pittsburgh), normally an infielder for Adirondack, came to the mound in relief and earned his first save of the season.
Elmira and Adirondack will face each other next on Thursday, June 15, in Elmira. The Trail Blazers lead the season series 2-0.
