GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Glens Falls Dragons (2-3) and the Saugerties Stallions (3-2) got off to a slow start Friday night at East Field, with the game remaining scoreless until the fifth inning.
Saugerties scored first after a double from Nick Campana (Hartford) and a pair of Dragons errors sent Jon Lezette across the plate. Moments later, Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) notched a single to allow Campana to score, bringing the score to 2-0 Stallions.
Dragons switched from starting pitcher Alex Phillips (Bellarmine) to collegiate teammate Duncan Amrein (Bellarmine) early in the seventh. Saugerties furthered their lead with back-to-back singles from Jack Gonzalez (Stetson) and John McKenna (Army), ending the top of the inning with the Stallions ahead by 4 runs.
Saugerties switched pitchers twice in the seventh, replacing starter Nick Massa (Manhattan) with Ian Sheuer (Manhattan) who allowed one run, before sending Kevin Napoleon (Butler) to the mound.
Glens Falls responded and narrowed the lead late in the seventh when Saugerties walked two-in-a-row, Matt Hamel (Siena), and Brian Uliana (Rider) after being hit by a pitch, each bringing in a run. The inning ended 4-3 Stallions.
Dragons introduced pitcher Heriberto Casasola (Reinhardt) early in the eighth, who allowed the Stallions no runs. Saugerties responded with two pitcher changes of their own, bringing in Brady Peterson (Stetson) and Matt Pushard (Maine).
While the Dragons fueled a near comeback late in the ninth, the game ended in favor of the Stallions, coming to a close at 4-3 Saugerties.
The Glens Falls Dragons return to East Field tomorrow, as they are set to take on the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs at 7PM.
