GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Glens Falls Dragons (2-2) and the Oneonta Outlaws (0-5) battled out a game of extra-innings Thursday night at East Field, ending in a thrilling win for the Dragons.
Glens Falls’ Dan Lowndes (Siena) pioneered the night’s scoring late in the fourth inning with an RBI single to give the Dragons the lead 1-0. The Outlaws responded with a run of their own from Chandler Engel (USC-Sumter) to tie the game up in the sixth.
Minutes later, the game heated up as Dragons pitcher James Varela (LIU Post) threw at two consecutive Oneonta batters.
Glens Falls took the lead for a second time late in the sixth. With bases load, Dragons’ Duncan Amrein (Bellarmine) notched a single, followed by a walk from Oneonta pitcher Cal Lawrence (Binghamton), bringing the score to 3-1 Dragons.
The Outlaws responded with two runs early in the seventh to tie the game yet again, 3-3.
Both teams brought in new pitchers in the eight, with the Dragons introducing Tom Taplin (Buffalo), and Oneonta sending Andrew Workman (Quinnipiac) to the mound. Neither allowed a run before both teams switched pitchers again, this time with the Dragons calling on PJ Strahm (Bucknell) and the Outlaws subbing in Nathan Wrighter (Bryant).
With the score remaining unchanged at the end of nine, the game headed to extra innings. Outlaws’ Marcus White (Virginia Tech) hit a double down the left-field line early in the eleventh inning to give Oneonta a 4-3 lead.
The Dragons fired back late in the inning, after a bases-loaded walk from Oneonta pitcher Nathan Wrighter to tie the game at 4-4. With two outs, bases loaded, and a high-energy crowd, Dan Lowndes notched a walk off single to secure the win for Glens Falls, 5-4.
Dragons return to East Field tomorrow at 7PM to take on the Saugerties Stallions.
