JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Trailing 2-0 in the top of the 9th, the Elmira Pioneers (3-1) staged a late comeback and scored four in the top half of the 9th in order to get the win against the Jamestown Jammers (2-2). The win is the third in a row for the Pioneers.

Prior to the 9th, the Jamestown Jammers were in complete control of the game thanks to a phenomenal start from Christian Young (Niagara County CC). Young worked seven scoreless innings, only allowing four hits and striking out 10 Pio’s. However, he would not be rewarded for his efforts as the Jamestown bullpen could not hold his lead.

The Jammers took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning against Pioneers starter Houston Roth(Ole Miss). Following a Chris Conley (Canisius) double and a Colin Stack (UMBC) walk, Chris Estrada (UTSA) poked a single through the left side to open the scoring. Roth would then strike out Alex O’Donnell (Mercyhurst) to end the Jamestown threat.

Jamestown would tack on their second and final run of the ballgame in the 5th. Casey Vincent (St. Bonaventure) lead off with a single and would advance to third after a Brett Vosik (Kansas) throwing error on a groundball off the bat of Connor Rule(Kansas State). After a Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) walk, Roth was able to strike out Skyler Valentine (UTSA), but Chris Conley (Canisius) would capitalize for the Jammers but lifting a ball to left that would be good enough for a sac fly that pushed the Jammers lead to 2-0.

The Pio’s would remain scoreless until the 9th, as after a one out Brayden Combs (Kentucky) single, Brett Rodriguez (Wofford) worked a walk that would bring Brett Vosik to the plate. Vosik proceeded to lace a ball into the left-center field gap that scored both runners and knotting up the score at 2-2.

Devon Adams (Old Dominion) and Andrew Orzel (Wofford) would then follow with back to back walks which loaded the bases. Anthony Nucerino (UConn) would give the Pioneers their first lead of the game as he grounded into a fielder’s choice that resulted in a throwing error and would allow two runs to score giving the Pio’s a 4-2 lead.

Allbry Major (Xavier) would close the doors on the Jammers, working a clean 9th inning to secure the victory for Elmira. Major gets credit for the win, working two scoreless frames and striking out three.

The starter for the Pio’s, Houston Roth, worked five innings allowing two runs and striking out six. Casey Vincent (St. Bonaventure) gets tagged with the blown save and the loss after working just a third of an inning and allowing three runs.

The Pioneers will be back home tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 7th, at 7:05 against the Geneva Red Wings.
