ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Elmira Pioneers are pleased to announce the signings of pitchers Grant Donahue and Jackson Tedder from the University of Virginia. The duo comes from a Virginia Cavaliers baseball program that is currently ranked 14th in the country by D1baseball.com.
Donahue, a sophomore right-handed pitcher who measures in at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, has made nine appearances thus far this season for the Cavaliers, compiling a 4.66 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 9.2 innings. While in high school at Stephen Decatur High School in Maryland, Donahue compiled a 19-4 record while striking out 197 batters during his four-year career. Grant was a three-time first-team All-Bayside Conference selection in addition to being named first-team Maryland District 8 during his junior and senior seasons. During his 2014 season, Donahue was named his conference's pitcher of the year, as he went 6-1 with a 0.77 ERA.
Tedder, a freshman left-handed pitcher who hails from Beavercreek, Ohio, stands in at 6-foot and weighs 180 pounds. Tedder was a two-time All-Ohio honoree while at Beavercreek High School and recorded an astounding 0.19 ERA during his senior season. In addition, Tedder was twice named First-Team All-Greater Western Ohio Conference and was named All-Area Player of the Year during his senior year. He has made two appearances for the Cavaliers thus far this season.
Pioneers Head Coach Brian Hill said, “Grant and Jackson will both be in our starting rotation this summer, and are great additions to a very talented starting staff. Our pitching staff this season is looking very strong. We are very excited to get started.”
