Dunn Field to Host 2017 IAC Small/Large School Championships

ELMIRA, N.Y. - Historic Dunn Field will be busy this spring, as the home of the Elmira Pioneer will be the site of the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Small/Large School Championship games for the fifth straight year.

The championship games will be played on Thursday, May 11, with the Large School Championship kicking things off at 5:30 P.M. The Small School Championship game will take place approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the Large School Championship game.

Should the games be canceled due to rain, they will be played the following day on Friday, May 12.

“Being able to host these championship games allows us to keep Dunn Field active and busy throughout the whole year. These games give the athletes the opportunity to play in a historic ballpark and it gives us a very nice lead-in to the start of the Elmira Pioneers season just over two weeks later,” said Pioneers co-owner Robbie Nichols.

Tickets for all ages can be purchased for $5.00. The Dunn Field concession stand will be open to serve food throughout both games. The Pioneers ask that fans please refrain from bringing any outside food or beverages into the stadium.

“The IAC Championship games have been a tradition that we started four years ago. We look forward to keep working with the IAC committee to make sure we can keep this tradition going as long as Robbie and I are the owners of the Elmira Pioneers. I would also like to thank Elmira College for being flexible with their schedule to make this annual event still possible,” stated Pioneers co-owner Don Lewis.

The Elmira Pioneers, along with the Hilliard Corporation and Elmira Business Institute, are excited to announce that former Major League pitcher Tommy John will be a special guest at the third annual Elmira Pioneers Hot Stove Dinner.

The dinner will take place on April 20 at the Holiday Inn Riverview, located at One Holiday Plaza, at 6:30 p.m. and tickets will cost $50. Tommy John will host a speaking engagement following dinner, which will end with a question and answer session. After the speaking engagement, there will be a live auction, which will include Tommy John memorabilia along with many other items, in addition to door prize giveaways. Prior to the dinner at 5:30 p.m., there will be a one hour VIP meet and greet, with tickets costing $50. The ticket includes a free item for Tommy John to autograph, personalized photo opportunities, free autographs and personalized autographs up to two items, and special door prize giveaways.

Tickets to the VIP meet and greet and the dinner and speaking engagement will be sold separately. Tickets can be purchased for either or both events by visiting the Pioneers’ front office at 546 Luce Street or calling (607) 734-2690.
