BOONVILLE, N.Y. – The Adirondack Trail Blazers and the Boonville Youth Athletic Association (BYAA) are in the midst of a significant five-year renovation and expansion plan at the Dr. Robert Smith Sports Complex. Funding for this project has come from multiple sources, including a $50,000 grant that was secured with help from New York Sen. Joseph A. Griffo.
Phase one of the plan has already been completed. This included drainage work, power seeding, and an upgraded playing surface for 2017. The BYAA is now working on phase two, which includes installing a new entrance, additional seating, dugout expansions, new stadium backstops, a brand new practice diamond, renovations to the Little League field, and cosmetic upgrades to Hanson Aggregates Field. The 2017 version of Hanson Aggregates Field at "The Smith" will also include the all new "Blazer Gardens," which will include a barbecue area along with other fan-friendly entertainment.
Set to be completed by spring of 2020, the renovation plan will also see safety netting, a baseball museum, a clubhouse, and more added to the Smith Sports Complex.
When asked about the upcoming renovations BYAA President Rusty Yauger said, “Throughout the Adirondack Central School seasons and Trail Blazers season, many people from out of the area visited and they commented on the good things we have done here at the park and the beauty of it. It would make Dr. Robert Smith proud. We too are proud of this, hence, we continue improving.”
