10/08/2016 4:34 PM -

Onondaga Flames Inc today announced the appointment of Ryan Stevens as Director of Baseball for the new collegiate summer league baseball team. Stevens will also serve as Head Coach for the 2017 summer season. The Flames are the newest franchise in the prestigious Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (www.pgcbl.com), a top-ranked summer wooden bat development league for Major League Baseball. The team will play its home games at Onondaga Community College Stadium on Onondaga Hill during June and July.

“We are very fortunate to have a real professional with Ryan’s experience to lead the franchise into its inaugural season in such a competitive league. Ryan has succeeded at all levels of play as both a head coach and general manager. He was our first and only choice.” Explained Wayne Walker, Flames president.

Stevens, a Dryden native and current Head Baseball Coach at Tompkins Cortland Community College, returned to his hometown in 2013 after a highly successful professional managerial career that included league titles and coach of the year honors while coaching in the Pecos League. Stevens, who also worked as an associate scout in the West Texas region for the Washington Nationals, served as an assistant coach at Ithaca College during the 2013-14 school year. He graduated from Dryden High before going on to a distinguished collegiate career at SUNY Cobleskill and Frostburg State University (Maryland).
