The Victor RailRiders came to play inside McDonough Park on Wednesday night. Starting pitcher Brennen Smith (Canisius College) picke dup the win by threw seven innings of shut out baseball while only allowing two hits and striking out six. Behind him were relievers Jake Casey (Canisius College) and Cameron Briggs (UC Davis) who shut down the Wings in the eighth and ninth to preserve the 8-0 win for Victor.
The RailRiders offense didn’t stray to far behind the pitching staff either. Racking up 14 hits in total, Victor had all nine hitters on base throughout different parts of the game and put on a show in the eighth inning. That’s when the biggest blow came off the bats of Jack Zagaja and Aaron Endres who hit back to back solo bombs which all but sealed the deal for the RailRiders.
Snapping an eight game skid, Victor picked up there tenth win of the season on Wednesday night and only sit 3 ½ games back of the fourth and final playoff spot in the PGCBL’S West Division.
For Geneva, Alec Jordan (Knox College) took the loss on the mound as the Red Birds fell to 6-17 on the season. This sets them up for a date with Adirondack on Thursday night when they face the Trail Blazers on the road. This will be the first time these two teams meet in 2016 and looks to be a battle within the PGCBL ranks.
