Pioneers Rebound On The Road, Defeat Newark 5-3

The Pioneers faced off against the Newark Pilots at Colburn Park after losing to the Utica Blue Sox on the road yesterday. Taylor Ahearn (Cal State San Marcos) would get the start for Elmira and would help silence the Newark Pilots.

The Pioneers got on the board first in the top of the second, as Lucas Denny (Seattle University) reached on a walk and would steal third base before an erroneous throw by Dan Vucovich (Holy Cross) would bring Denney in giving Elmira the early lead of 1-0.

The Pioneers broke it open the very next inning as an RBI single by Denney, a passed ball to bring in Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) and a sac fly from Kyle Ruth (LIU Brooklyn) would make the score 4-0.

The Pilots would score in the bottom of the fourth thanks to some small ball action and some Elmira miscues which would bring the score to 4-2.

The Pilots would again get another run on the board as Luke Reynolds (Mississippi State) would hit a solo shot to right field off of Taylor Ahearn to bring the score 4-3.

Elmira would get an insurance run in the top of the eighth thanks to Zeke Lewis who doubled to right field to bring in Jason Patnick (Manhattan).

The Pioneers would secure the win 5-3 as Parker Caracci (Ole Miss) saved his fourth game of the season striking out two batters in the bottom of the ninth. Ahearn earned the win striking out seven batters and giving up three runs and walking only one batter. Xan Reese (Northeast Miss. CC) would get the loss lasting only two and two-thirds allowing four runs, walking five batters and striking out two.
