Pitching Trio of Galvan, Burns and Caracci, Helps Elmira Get Third Win Over Geneva

This is the third time this week that the Pioneers have faced off against the Geneva Red Wings. This time, they elected to hand the ball off to Marc Galvan (Manhattan) for his first start in PGCBL play.

The Red Wings started with a 1-0 lead at the bottom of the first and tried to get Galvan off of the mound early. However, Galvan would throw three more scoreless innings to keep Geneva off the board.

Connor Burns (Samford) then threw in relief of Galvan at the top of the top of the fifth and gave up two runs to start, but would settle in later on to keep Red Wings off balance with his breaking ball.

Along with the solid pitching of Elmira, their offense was also red hot at the plate. Rob Perteet in particular went three for four on the night with three straight singles. The Geneva defense also helped out the Pioneers cause as six errors by the Redwings allowed two runs in the third and three runs in the fifth. The one true run to come in was Brian Kelly’s (Siena) deep triple down the right field line which brought in Perteet from first.

Dalton Reed (West Chester) would take the loss pitching five and two-thirds innings giving up 10 hits, six runs and striking out six. Connor Burns would earn the win giving up six hits in four innings pitched but only allowed two runs and striking out five batters.

Parker Caracci (Ole Miss) earns his third save of the season, striking out three straight batters in the bottom of the ninth. The final score at the end of the night would be 6-3.
