The Geneva Red Wings trailed the Elmira Pioneers 4-1 on Wednesday night through seven innings of play. In the Eighth, Geneva finally woke up the bats when they loaded the bases with two outs and scored three runs off of RBI singles by Ivan Wortman and Jordan Wiley.
After a scoreless ninth sent the game to extras, Elmira seemed to turned the tide back on the Red Wings in the top half of the tenth. A Connor Burns RBI double ended up plating the winning run and left the battle tested Red Wings in shock.
As the second extra inning game the Red Wings have played this year, it proved to be another gutsy performance that ended in defeat. Battling back from a four run deficit, Geneva showed a lot of character before falling to an Elmira squad that seems to have the Red Wings number in 2016.
With the win, Elmira improved to 8-4 on the season and will come back to Geneva on Friday night to play the Red Wings for the third time in four days. As for Geneva, an off day on Thursday will be followed by another matchup with Elmira before the team hits the road for the weekend.
