05/28/2011 12:05 PM - Marietta College senior outfielder John Snyder (Elmira '10) has been selected as a first team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com. Snyder was one of just 10 players from a nationally-selected pool to be named to the ABCA All-America first team and the D3baseball.com All-America first team.
The Marietta senior picked up this spring where he left off at the end of last summer with the Elmira Pioneers. Snyder was one of the key components in Elmira's run to the New York Collegiate Baseball League's Western Division championship. He started 40 games for the Pios and finished the regular season among the league's best with a .338 batting average. Snyder was tabbed All-NYCBL first team following the conclusion of the playoffs.
The Altoona, Pa., native is currently competing for the nationally-ranked Marietta Pioneers at the NCAA Division III World Series in Appleton, Wisc. He is looking to add a national championship to his already crowded 2011 trophy season. The senior has already been honored as the ABCA Mideast Region Player of the Year and the Jack Rafeld Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Additionally, he was named All-Mideast Region first team, All-OAC first team and he won a Mideast Region Gold Glove.
Snyder entered the World Series with a .460 batting average which was the highest in the Mideast Region and ranked fifth in the country. Through 45 games, the Marietta center fielder led the team with 75 hits, 20 doubles and 58 runs batted in. He also had two triples, four home runs, 44 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.
Kean University senior Ken Gregory (Glens Falls '07) also garnered All-American laurels. The senior outfielder was chosen as a first team All-American by D3baseball and he was tabbed second team All-American by ABCA.
Like Snyder, Gregory was also highly lauded for his exploits on the diamond this spring. The senior was the ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association Division II/III Player of the Year. He was chosen ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team and All-New Jersey Athletic Conference first team.
Gregory and the Kean University Cougars are also playing in the Division III World Series. He entered the national tournament with a .410 batting average, 80 hits, 22 doubles, 11 home runs and 54 runs batted in. The senior has started each of Kean's games this season.
The Pittstown, N.J., native played briefly for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles during the summer of 2007.
