In addition, Utah Valley’s Goose Kallunki (Cooperstown 2010) received a weekly national honor as he was named the National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Saint Louis University freshman Mike Vilgliarolo (Glens Falls 2012) was selected as the Rookie of the Week by the Atlantic-10. Vigliarolo helped the Bilikens to a 4-1 week that included a three-game conference sweep of Saint Bonaventure. The freshman batted .375 (6-for-16) with one home, one RBI and one multi-hit game. Defensively, he accrued a 1.000 fielding percentage on 26 chances at first base. Vigliarolo had at least one hit in four-straight contests to end the week. He went 3-for-4 with three singles in the second game of the SBU series. In the finale with Bona, Vigliarolo’s base hit in the second inning led to the only run being scored in a 1-0 SLU victory. Through 43 games, the Billiken rookie is batting .315 with four home runs and 29 RBI.

Utah Valley University senior Goose Kallunki (Cooperstown 2010) was named the Great West Conference Player of the Week. Kallunki and the Wolverines have won 28-straight games. Last week, Utah Valley outlasted rival BYU and then swept a Great West series with Houston Baptist. Goose batted .526 (10-for-29) with three home runs, 12 RBI and seven runs scored. He added three doubles, one triple, four walks and a 1.263 slugging percentage. The senior totaled four multi-hit efforts in five games and had at least one run and one RBI in all five contests. Kallunki began the week with a three-run belt against BYU and he finished the night with four RBI. The former Cooperstown slugger clubbed two home runs in the series opener at Houston Baptist. He collected six hits, three for extra bases and drove in five runs in the final three games of the HBU series. Through 46 games, the Orem, Utah, native is batting .419 with 15 home runs and 72 RBI. Nationally speaking, Kallunki’s 72 RBI are the most in NCAA Division I.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tapped Niagara University redshirt junior Jim Fort (Cooperstown 2011) as the MAAC Pitcher of the Week. Fort pitched a complete game five-hit shutout as Niagara blanked Saint Peter’s, 7-0, in the second game of a doubleheader on May 5. The Niagara starter scattered five hits, walked three and struck out four in the seven-inning affair. He allowed just two Peacock runners to advance safely past second base. Fort closed out his third win of the season by retiring nine of the final 11 SPC batters. The Cooperstown, N.Y., native is 3-3 through 10 appearances and he is second on the Purps in wins, innings pitched (51.0) and strikeouts (37).
