The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League has a roster of some highly experienced Head Coaches to lead their respective teams this summer.
"Though it is nice to strictly be a training ground for coaching newcomers, it is gratifying to know that the players who join the nine PGCBL teams will be guided by experienced hands. Our baseball coaching staffs have an expansive amount of playing, managing and coaching time under their belts. The kids who come to the PGCBL really get a baseball education." stated PGCBL President Jeff Kunion.
2012 PGCBL Head Coaches include:
Albany Dutchmen - Nick Davey
Davey, who enters his third season as Head Coach of the Dutchmen, spent five years as a Coach with the College of St. Rose.
Amsterdam Mohawks - Keith Griffin
Griffin who led the Mohawks to league titles in 2009 and 2010 and the PGCBL West Division title in 2011 returns for his fourth season.
The Amsterdam skipper has spent 18 years in the collegiate ranks. He was an Assistant Coach at Jacksonville University and Okaloosa-Walton CC, before being appointed as the Head Coach at Jefferson Davis CC and then Okaloosa - Walton CC. He led his Jefferson Davis squad to the NJCAA National Championship in 1998 and was named NJCAA National Coach of the Year. He also garnered the Southern Conference Coach of the Year award five times and AJCCC Coach of the Year award twice.
Cooperstown Hawkeyes- Eric Coleman
This will be Coleman's second season with the Hawkeyes. He led them to the PGCBL West Division crown in 2011 and was named PGCBL Coach of the Year. Prior to his stint as the Hawkeyes skipper, he spent three seasons as a minor league manager. His collegiate coaching experience spans 14 years including stops as a coach at San Diego Mesa College, San Jose City College and Niagara University.
Elmira Pioneers - Dan Shwam
Shwam, who returns for his 3rd season with the Pioneers, spent 17 season as a minor league manager. His clubs reached the playoffs
14 times, winning 6 regular season titles and 3 league championships. He amassed 694 wins on the professional level and was named Manager/Coach of the Year on four occasions including 2010 when he led the Pioneers to the NYCBL West Division championship.
Glens Falls - John Mayotte
Mayotte begins his 9th season as the field leader of the Golden Eagles. The Glens Falls skipper has more than 25 years NCAA coaching experience, including 13 years at Eckerd College and 10 seasons with Troy State University. He has lead his teams to a dozen regional tournaments and three #1 NCAA D2 rankings. He is ranked #18 in NCAA D2 wins (821), has amassed 1,293 wins overall and been named Coach
of the Year three times (Cape Cod League 1985, NYCBL, 2004 & 2007)
Mohawk Valley - Roberto Vaz
Vaz, an Assistant Coach at LSU - Eunice takes over the helm in Mohawk Valley. The 1997 seventh round draft choice of the Oakland Athletics played professionally seven seasons, reaching "AAA" in 2000 when he hit .289 with 10 HR's and 72 RBI's.
Newark - Chris Ebright
Ebright begins his second season with the Pilots after guiding Newark to the PGCBL Championship in 2011. Prior to joining the Pilots he was Head Coach for the Hornell Dodgers (NYCBL). After a two year professional career, he has spent six years coaching at the collegiate level with Central Methodist University and Erie County Community College. He currently is an Assistant Coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Oneonta Outlaws - Greg Zackrison
This will be Greg's 4th year as Head Coach of the Oneonta Outlaws. He has led the Outlaws to three playoff appearances which culminated
in winning the NYCBL Championship in 2011. Greg is currently an Assistant Coach at Massasoit Community College which has won 4 New England Regional titles and appeared in the NJCAA World Series three times. Prior to joining the Outlaws, Greg spent two years as a Coach in the
Cape Cod League with the Harwich Mariners, including the Mariners 2008 Cape Cod League championship season.
Watertown Wizards - Nathan Kafka
This will be Nathan's first year at the helm of the Wizards. After pitching for two seasons professional baseball Nathan begins his third year in coaching on the staff of the University of Minnesota - Duluth. He was Pitching Coach on the Minnesota State University team that went to the NCAA D2 world Series in 2010.
