PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 23, 2018The battle for second place in the PGCBL East and Central take center stage on Monday, with both spots on the line. Sunday's Results Monday's Scheduled Games Albany Dutchmen at Oneonta Outlaws A rare tripleheader is on the schedule in Oneonta, as the Dutchmen and Outlaws will finish a suspended game from June 3, and then play a doubleheader to make up a rainout from June 27. In the suspended game, Oneonta holds a 12-5 lead over the Dutchmen, and the game will be picked up in the bottom of the eighth. Albany, who could see their lead for second in the East increase to as much as 3.5 or fall to a 1.5 game deficit, will send Siena pitchers Matt Pierce and Dylan D'Anna to the mound in the full games. Elmira Pioneers at Saugerties Stallions After a victory over Albany on Sunday night, the Saugerties Stallions enter Monday's doubleheader with the chance to overtake the Dutchmen for second place in the PGCBL East. The doubleheader picks up a suspended game from June 27, and will follow with a regularly scheduled contest. The Stallions are 2-0 this season against the Pioneers, winning at Dunn Field on June 13 and June 29. Elmira enters the contest 2.5 games behind Geneva for second place in the West, and 1.5 games clear of the Newark Pilots for third. Watertown Rapids at Utica Blue Sox Second place in the PGCBL Central is on the line in Utica on Monday night, one day after the Blue Sox moved alone into second with an 8-7 victory over Adirondack. The Blue Sox are tied with Amsterdam as the hottest team in the PGCBL over the last ten games, going 7-3 in that time span. Utica leads the season series 5-4, with the finale coming on Thursday night at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. A lead could prove to be crucial for the Blue Sox, who will play five consecutive games on the road to close the season. Jamestown Jammers at Newark Pilots The Newark Pilots are looking to rally their way into the PGCBL Playoffs, while the Jamestown Jammers attempt to take a three game lead over idle Amsterdam for the top seed in the league. The Jammers have won six of the eight games this season against the Pilots, including a walk-off win on Saturday night that locked up the West Division championship. However, the Pilots have won two of the last three games between the teams with victories on July 7 and July 20. Adirondack Trail Blazers at Glens Falls Dragons Two teams on the outside looking in in the PGCBL Playoff hunt match up at East Field, hoping to start a late charge in the final week or so of the season. Glens Falls has lost four consecutive contests, and eight of their last ten. Adirondack currently sits 5.5 games back of Utica for second in the Central, and have lost each of their last two games. The Dragons will send Tom Taplin (Georgetown College) to the mound for his seventh start of the season. Taplin, who holds a 2-4 record, has earned a decision in all of his starts this season. |
